Sorry to anyone who’s been trying to access the photos on my posts. Every photo, it seems, from 1st July back, has disappeared, leaving only a little box to say it had been there.
I’ve done everything WordPress have suggested with no result whatever. I’ve noticed this on the odd occasion on other blogs, so was wondering if anyone has any clues as to what to do about it.
In the meantime, I’m doing a test run with some photos of favourite spots from my solo trip to England in 2011, to see what happens.
My beautiful digs at Balliol College in OxfordThe medieval streets of York. The vicarage in Haworth, where the Brontes wrote their masterpieces. My favourite spot in England – Haddon Hall in Derbyshire, the setting for many a film and tv series.Haddon Hall gardens. The plague village of Eyam.Lyme Park doubled as Pemberley in the TV series, Pride and Prejudice.Mr. Darcy raced through this court yard to stop Elizabeth from escaping.Stunning John Rylands Library in ManchesterPretty SkiptonSkipton Castle is in such perfect condition, with a bit of furniture and a heater, you could live there.I couldn’t believe I was sitting in a cafe looking straight across at the Stratford-upon-Avon theatres.Catching a play at Stratford.
Coral, that is devastating! Can you still view them in your media library and if so, have you tried reinserting them? Surely the “happiness engineers” can help (though that’s not what I call them at times 🙊) BTW, these photos are all showing.
Thanks, Kathy. Nope, media library is empty. Weird. Could have been something to do with the old computer, perhaps, which had been trying to die for a while. The new computer seems to be doing a good job, anyway, so that’s a relief.
Hi, Kathy. Just an update on the loss of my photos. It seems I accidentally deleted all the photos from the media library, which cleared them from the posts. My WordPress plan doesn’t give me backup but I have tried reinserting them and it works so that’s good. Thanks for your advice. Cheers, Coral.
Yep. It’s actually all the photos before 1st July this year that are missing. Luckily the new ones are okay and I’ll be able to keep up with my blogging. Thanks for reading.
Yes, I can see the new ones but you are right, your last post just has white boxes with a question mark and when I click to open I get the 404 Not Found message. It seems to me the best suggestion made so far is to check with WordPress for a backup.
Interesting that you loved Haddon Hall so much – we visited recently for the first time in decades and I will be posting about it fairly soon. It was my highlight of a 12 day trip. We also visited Sudbury Hall which played Pemberley’s interiors (Lyme Park was exteriors only).
Hi, Anabel. I checked with WordPress and my plan doesn’t offer backup but I’m able to reinsert them so that’s good. It might take the next 5 years of my life but I’ll soldier on. I’m waiting with bated breath for your photos of Haddon Hall. I didn’t realise the interiors of Pemberley were from Sudbury Hall. I’ll have to check out some photos. Cheers, Coral.
Oh no, that sounds like a tedious task! Although, looking on the bright side, it gives you a chance to relive old memories. My next post (Monday coming) will have Haddon and Sudbury,
I don’t have the premium plan so I can’t see this, but Reddit is saying if you go into your site settings, you can clear the cache (there is a caching section). A cache is a separate storage of items to make it load faster. Apparently when WordPress does updates sometimes the cached links are incorrect so you have to clear that cache. Once that is done go to one of your pages and if they are still not there, type Ctrl-F5, which is a full refresh of your page with your browser, which will clear your browsers cache (yes, your browser even has a cache) and get the images. It may not work but just something to try.
Thanks for all that. For the moment I’ve gone back to WordPress and asked them to sort it for me. That’s worked for others so cross fingers. Thanks from a fellow Melburnian for visiting my blog.
Just an update on my photos problem. It seems I accidentally cleared the media library, hence clearing them from the posts. My plan doesn’t allow for backup but I can reinsert them myself so that’s good. Thanks for your interest. Cheers, Coral.
Hi, Browney. I got onto WordPress and they were terrific. Looks like I accidentally deleted all the photos from the media library which caused them to disappear from the posts. I still have them all saved so I can gradually add them back in. The more technical stuff they suggested is a bit beyond me at the moment but I’ll have a look into it at some stage. Thanks so much for your interest.
The photos you’ve posted of the UK look fine (and you’ve visited some great spots!). They should be in your media library. Is your website hosted? Your host should be able to sort this out for you and would be able to tell you if you needed to upgrade for more space.
Thanks, Mike. It was my mistake, it seems. I probably accidentally cleared the media library which cleared the photos from the posts. My plan doesn’t allow for backup but I can reinsert them myself. It may take the next 5 years of my life but all good. Cheers, Coral.
I could see the photos very well. They are fabulous!!

Hi Darlene. Are the photos you’ve seen older ones or the ones I’ve just posted?

The ones just posted. Perhaps you ran out of room in your media library.

If you re-upload them to the library, try one post to find out, do they reappear in the post?

Actually, that’s worth a thought, Kathy. I’ll try it.

The other thing is, WordPress should have a backup of your content and should be able to restore it.

Thanks, Kathy. I didn’t realise that.

I had the same problem a few months ago. I contacted both Jetpack and my web host and they were able to resolve the issue.
