I recently crossed the ‘Ditch’ (the Tasman Sea) from Melbourne to New Zealand, to explore what is one of my very favourite places, and in particular, to check out the recovery of Christchurch after the devastating earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.
This is the scene as you cross the Southern Alps on the south island, heading into Christchurch.

The scenery wasn’t too bad from the Coastal Pacific either, which travels up the coast from Christchurch to Picton, where you can then jump on a ferry across Cook Strait to the north island.

Those mountains, just so completely barren of anything but snow. Amazing, thanks 🙂

It is an amazing scene. I made sure I had a window seat as I’ve flown over them before so I knew what was coming. Thanks for reading.
