On the final leg of my two-day trip around the Bellarine Peninsula, I wound around from Point Lonsdale to Queenscliff. There are plenty of touristy things to do here normally: historic museums, art galleries, eating places but the town had started closing down and was very quiet.

It’s a lovely old town, known for its very opulent Victorian Heritage buildings and so I used the time to wander the streets and check them out.

The Bellarine Railway is volunteer-operated and has a fleet of heritage steam and diesel trains from all around Australia. The service runs between Drysdale and Queenscliff. The railway is home to the now famous Blues Train, for those who like to be serenaded with live blues while chugging along, and the Q Train, for those who like to dine on local produce and wine while chugging along. There’s also a Thomas the Tank engine for the kids.

An hour on the ferry across the bay to Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula, and an hour’s drive home, finished off a very pleasant couple of days on the Bellarine Peninsula.
